While details can’t be confirmed right now, authorities mentioned looking into alcohol as a possible factor. Generally speaking, that’s not unusual for authorities bring up after fatal crashes, but it’s a bit less common at this time of day. It potentially raises a red flag that authorities feel there was clear evidence to suggest alcohol was involved to some degree.
It wouldn’t be the first time, of course. I’ve handled hundreds of cases involving drunk drivers, and they can happen before sunrise, in the middle of the afternoon, or just after breakfast. There are even alcohol providers who break the law and over-serve people at all hours of the day. So what is it, then, that led authorities to believe alcohol was worth mentioning here?
