How Did This Accident Occur?
Common factors to look into for any early-morning crash will be distracted driving, unsafe speeds, and fatigue. Of course, I always caution against jumping to conclusions, especially when the victim hasn’t been able to tell their side of the story. What can make this more challenging is when the victim was the only one involved in the crash and happened to be on a motorcycle. This is the exact type of accident where I most often see people jumping to all kinds of conclusions.
Simply put, a lot of folks assume all motorcyclists are reckless, and they figure if no one else was involved in the crash, the victim must have done something wrong. That’s not always true, though. For example, what if the motorcycle hit a big pothole or some other hazard in the road? That’s far more dangerous than in a typical car, and it could be completely unavoidable. So why jump to conclusions when the investigations aren’t even a day old yet? Hopefully the crash gets the attention it needs from professionals who can set aside bias and focus on letting the evidence speak for itself.
If anyone is from this area and knows the road well, let me know in the comments if there’s anything that might be a risk to motorcyclists.
