How Did This Accident Occur?
People tend to be hasty when it comes to pedestrian accidents. Authorities say that the victim was getting something out of the road, so this whole thing may be prematurely written off as the pedestrian being somewhere they shouldn’t have been. Like any serious accident, though, that’s up to the evidence to say.
What was lighting like here? Was the pedestrian clearly visible? Did the victim wait for a light to turn red before entering the road? Have authorities pulled the driver’s cellphone records? Is there video of this accident? Are there any independent witnesses? If authorities are able to answer all of these questions, then that’s usually a sign they gave the accident the attention it deserved. Too often, though, families call us about similar situations where authorities basically just moved on after a mere glimpse at the accident scene. That’s no way to get clear facts, and I would hate to hear that this accident was receiving similar treatment.
