How Did This Accident Occur?

People tend to jump to conclusions after single-vehicle car accidents and assume the driver was on their phone or driving too fast. Those are common factors—I’m not suggesting anyone ignore those possibilities. But if authorities treat a crash with equal flippancy, they’re likely to overlook something important.

For example, what if the roadway here is in poor condition? If there are potholes, if lanes are uneven, if signage or road markings aren’t clearly visible, etc., then that could easily lead to a serious accident. But that takes careful analysis of the area, which requires special tools and training. If authorities lack those resources or just feel a crash isn’t worth the time and effort, important information could slip through the cracks.

I certainly don’t know more about what happened here than anyone else looking at the public details. However, across countless car accident investigations, I’ve seen many important details come to light only after the initial investigations at the crash scene. That’s why it’s best to be open to all explanations, common or not, rather than jumping to conclusions before the full story is clear.
