San Antonio, TX — June 23, 2024, Justin Lopez was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident at around 9:00 p.m. on Babcock Road.
Preliminary information about the accident says that it happened in the area of Babcock Road and Welles Way.

According to officials, 30-year-old Justin Diego Blu Lopez was on a Kawasaki motorcycle going southbound on Babcock. Just off Welles Way, a Ford Escape reportedly failed to yield making a left turn, and the motorcycle crashed into the Ford. As a result, Justin Lopez was fatally injured. It’s unclear if authorities considered any charges.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a situation like this, people generally think someone failing to yield the right of way makes a situation open-and-shut. But anytime there’s room to try to shift the blame, it’s going to be exploited. That’s especially true with motorcyclists, as a lot of people tend to be inherently biased against them. Far too many people are susceptible to believing outright lies about a rider being reckless, or they may ultimately side with the other driver involved if there’s ever a conflict over whose actions were more responsible for the crash.
For example, let’s say a car was going slightly over the speed limit, and a truck pulled through a stop sign and caused a crash. It’s obviously wrong to speed, but in a situation like that, a lot of people would likely still say the truck failing to yield was the more serious mistake. But if the victim was on a motorcycle, a significant amount of people might decide the opposite unless convinced through clear evidence that the truck driver’s actions were more negligent than the victim’s.
Right now, there isn’t enough information for me to really say what happened here. Extenuating circumstances could make this a much more complex situation. But even though current facts seem straight-forward, it’s important to understand that just about all motorcycle wrecks have a base level of complexity victims and families have to prepare for. That usually means ensuring investigations are thorough enough to get the victims and families all of the facts.
