How Did This Accident Occur?

With the few confirmed details available right now, this crash could have involved anything from unsafe speeds to road hazards to a vehicle defect to tire failure to a medical condition. It’s too early to try to draw conclusions. Some folks, though, probably jumped to conclusions the second they read the word “motorcycle.”

Unfortunately, a lot of people are biased against motorcyclists. They just assume all riders are reckless drivers without bothering to consider the evidence. Even authorities can let their bias get the better of them. I’ve had cases where authorities blamed a rider for a crash only for our independent investigations to completely absolve the motorcyclists of wrongdoing through clear evidence.

Again, I can’t say what did or didn’t happen here. I just know from experience how important it is for investigators to put their bias aside and focus on the facts. Otherwise, they could make serious mistakes. No doubt there are riders out there who can share their own examples of how people’s negative view of motorcyclists as affected them.
