Amarillo, TX — March 31, 2024, Jose Silva III was injured following a car accident at around 4:30 a.m. along East Amarillo Boulevard.
Initial details about the crash say that it happened off the corner of East Amarillo Boulevard and North Bivins Street.

It appears 32-year-old Jose Silva III was in a Ford Focus going westbound along Amarillo Boulevard. In a series of events unclear, authorities say the Ford somehow crossed paths with an eastbound Dodge Ram. The two vehicles collided head-on as a result.
Silva was seriously injured in the crash. The other driver apparently wasn’t hurt. That driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time, but it’s unclear if any charges were filed. No further information can be confirmed right now.

Depending on details which may come to light in the future, this could be a perfect example of why I tell folks car accidents are rarely simple.
On the one hand, authorities say a vehicle somehow went into oncoming lanes. Most folks would see that and just assume all of this comes down to whatever caused that to happen. On the other hand, though, the oncoming driver was accused of drunk driving. That raises the serious question of whether or not a sober driver would have been able to see the victim’s vehicle and avoid it without any issues. If so, then that could mean alcohol is responsible for the crash itself even though it’s not the thing that caused the victim’s vehicle to leave its lane.
Again, that all depends on information that would come from a thorough accident reconstruction. Are those steps being taken here?
