Hidalgo County, TX — August 17, 2024, John Hadman Jr. was killed as the result of a car accident at around 2:00 a.m. along the Expressway 83 frontage road.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of I-2 and Old La Blanca Road.
According to officials, 57-year-old John Hadman Jr. was in an Audi going southbound on Old La Blanca. At the frontage road, the vehicle crossed traffic lanes, then crashed into the wall along the expressway. As a result, Hadman sustained fatal injuries. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident.

Right now, exact details surrounding the accident remain unconfirmed. With a crash like this, no doubt some folks will be quick to jump to conclusions. That’s something I caution against all the time on this blog, but people are generally less open to that suggestion with single-vehicle wrecks. Why is that?
I know from decades of experience there are all kinds of possible reasons a crash like this can happen, and victims aren’t always able to control all of those factors. Were there vehicle defects? Was there missing signage? Were they unlawfully over-served by a bar? Did their brakes fail or a tire blow out? Did they experience a medical emergency? Likely or not, these things happen, and they need to be investigated.
Instead, people generally just focus on more common possible factors like speeding, distracted driving, or fatigue. Those are obviously important to investigate, but ignoring other possibilities just because they’re less likely only leads to important details slipping through the cracks. Unfortunately, even authorities can fall into this trap, as single-vehicle wrecks can be seen as a low priority. Well, it should never be a “low priority” to get families the answers they need after a deadly accident. I certainly don’t see any reason why this crash would be an exception to that at all.
