With a crash like this, it’s important to keep in mind that authorities rarely have the whole story immediately following initial investigations. In fact, I get calls all the time from folks involved in single-vehicle wrecks who feel authorities either mishandled their investigations or otherwise feel they’re not getting proper attention. They’re just not seen as a high priority most of the time, so officers may end up jumping to conclusions rather than digging into the actual evidence.
That can be quite the challenge considering things like potential mechanical issues, road design flaws, poor lighting or signage, medical conditions, and other possibilities that require more serious investigations than something simple like distraction or fatigue. That’s why I have to wonder what steps were taken here to make sure authorities didn’t overlook anything important.
