Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With pedestrian accidents, my concern is generally whether or not it’s going to get the attention it deserves. Too often, I see departments brush off accidents like this as a low priority. These incidents aren’t always as simple as just finding out who had the right of way. There may be concerns about complex issues—road design, signage and lighting, medical conditions, alcohol, some kind of emergency, distraction, crash avoidance technology, etc. Likely or not, there are loved ones no doubt looking for answers. If steps aren’t being taken to ask the right questions, then, something important could easily slip through the cracks.
