Lampasas, TX — September 24, 2024, Jackie Purcell III was killed as the result of a work accident that happened along McLean Street.
According to initial details from an Occupational Safety and Health Administration incident summary, the accident happened at 1303 McLean Street, near East Avenue J.
Investigators did not give many details about the cause of the accident. Investigators said that 36-year-old Jackie Purcell III was working at the time and somehow became caught in machinery. As a result, Purcell sustained fatal injuries.

While the facts of the accident aren’t clear right now, any work accident in Texas is going to present unique challenges. Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country. This is because there isn’t always a guaranteed path to getting the victim’s family the benefits they need. For example, it could be that the employer doesn’t subscribe to the workers’ comp system, and so they have their own process for resolving things for the family. That resolution isn’t always seen as fair, so families may need their own tools and experienced allies to fight for a more fair resolution. Taking those steps as soon as possible may be the difference between a family being left to fend for themselves and a family getting a resolution they deserve.
