Crashes involving motorcycles and semi-trucks raise serious questions about visibility, right-of-way and reaction time. In this case, reports indicate that the two vehicles collided near an intersection, but without further details, it’s unclear what led to the crash. A proper investigation should examine every factor that may have contributed.
One key issue is whether the truck driver saw the motorcyclist in time. Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to spot, particularly if they are in a truck’s blind spots. If the truck was making a turn, did the driver check for approaching traffic? If the motorcycle was passing through the intersection, did they have the right of way? Investigators should review any available surveillance footage or dashcam recordings to clarify what happened.
Road and traffic conditions are also important considerations. El Camino Real is a busy corridor with multiple lanes and traffic signals. Were signals functioning properly? Was one of the vehicles trying to beat a yellow light? Did congestion or parked vehicles obstruct visibility? These are all factors that could play a role in how the crash unfolded.
Speed and braking distance should also be examined. Motorcycles can accelerate and stop more quickly than larger vehicles, but they are also far more vulnerable in collisions. Did the truck driver or the motorcyclist have enough time to react? Were there skid marks or evidence of last-second evasive maneuvers?
At this stage, there isn’t enough public information to say exactly what led to this crash. But if authorities only focus on who hit whom without asking why the collision happened, they could miss key details. A full investigation should consider visibility, traffic flow and driver actions to get a complete understanding of what went wrong.
