Hit-and-run Accident on Florida Avenue in Midland, TX

Investigators said that a 22-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman were on foot in the area of Florida Avenue. While walking, details suggest that a tan 2002 Ford Explorer struck the pedestrians. That vehicle then fled the scene.

Due to the collision, one of the victims was seriously injured while the other victim had moderate injuries. It’s unclear right now if authorities identified the runaway driver.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

If authorities have yet to locate the driver involved in this accident, I would hope to see them be more public with their investigations. A lot of the time, these situations reach a conclusion because someone in the public is able to connect dots authorities couldn’t.

What makes this especially important is the timing and location of the accident. The details of this accident have all the telltale signs of a drunk driving accident. That could raise concerns, then, that the driver fled because they were under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol related accidents can then lead to local alcohol providers who are also responsible if they over-served that driver. If an alcohol provider unlawfully over-serves someone, and it leads to that person getting themselves or someone else hurt, it exposes the alcohol provider to potential consequences.

Like I said, it’s possible authorities have made more progress behind the scenes. But it’s never too late after a hit and run to keep up the pressure in the hopes someone out there has new information. That way, steps can be taken to ensure there is accountability for the victims’ injuries.
