For one, I certainly hope that authorities will be able to hold any wrongdoers accountable for what happened here. Second of all, it’s somewhat encouraging seeing the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission involved here, as well. While that may sound odd to some people, it can be a crucial step in helping to prevent events like this.

Not a lot of people realize that businesses generally have a duty to ensure their property is as safe as reasonably possible for customers and employees alike. That includes locations which may see an unusually high amount of violence. If known issues aren’t addressed adequately, and people get hurt as a result, a venue such as a bar can potentially be held accountable for that.

Of course, I can’t say if any of that contributed to this incident, but two people were killed here. If nothing else, that warrants consideration for what steps—if any—could been taken to prevent this from happening. At the end of the day, any wrongdoer that contributes to a deadly shooting should face appropriate consequences—and that sometimes includes more than just the shooter.
