Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Single-vehicle crashes might seem simple at first glance, but they often involve hidden factors that require careful investigation. Did authorities take the time to examine the scene thoroughly, checking for hazards like road debris or poor visibility? Have they considered whether a mechanical issue, like a brake failure or steering problem, could have contributed?
Additionally, modern vehicles store critical data in their Engine Control Modules (ECMs), which can reveal details like speed and braking before the crash. Cellphone data, GPS records, and nearby video footage might also provide valuable insights.
It’s possible authorities have been thorough here to ensure the victim’s loved ones are getting the answers they deserve. However, I’ve seen countless examples of authorities coming up short when answering these sorts of questions. That’s why it’s important to know what kind of efforts authorities are making so people can know whether or not they should be looking for other avenues to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.
