Houston, TX — April 11, 2023, an 84-year-old Florida man was killed due to an accident where two vehicles collided along I-10/East Freeway.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. along westbound I-10 in the area of Thompson Road. Details suggest that an 84-year-old Florida man was in a vehicle along the main lanes of the interstate. Somehow, the vehicle came to a stop, possibly without its lights on. While there, a vehicle crashed into that man’s vehicle. This resulted in the Florida man sustaining fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported.

What concerns me going forward in situations like this is if authorities are going to dedicate the proper time and resources to ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. A vehicle coming to a stop on an interstate without lights can be a sign there was some kind of unexpected mechanical issue. There are simple reasons for that sort of thing to happen, but there are also very complex reasons (a manufacturing defect, for example). If the proper steps aren’t taken as soon as possible to anticipate those possibilities, something important could slip through the cracks. Are authorities ensuring that won’t happen here?
