McAllen, TX — December 4, 2024, Eric Castillo was killed in a rollover car accident shortly after 2:00 a.m. along south 17 1/2 Street.
According to reports, 31-year-old Eric Castillo was traveling in a southbound Ford F-150 along South 17th Street approaching the Houston Avenue intersection when the accident occurred.
Officials indicate that the pickup may have been traveling at unsafe speeds leading up to the accident. South 17th reportedly ends at a T-shaped intersection with West Houston Avenue. Rather than turn either right or left at the intersection, the pickup allegedly neglected the stop sign and continued straight, leaving the roadway and entering a vacant lot. There, it struck a small brick wall and a tree stump which caused the vehicle to overturn, rolling once and coming to rest on its wheels.
Castillo was reportedly ejected during the course of the accident, the pickup truck landing on top of him. He incurred apparently fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident are unavailable at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
