Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People might jump to conclusions seeing authorities mention the possibility of alcohol being involved in this accident. However, there are two important factors to consider. For one, authorities may determine that alcohol was not the contributing factor in this accident. Secondly, even if it was, that may not make things open-and-shut.

For example, it’s important in alcohol-related accidents to find out where that alcohol came from. If it was unlawfully over-served by a bar or similar establishment, then that establishment may also be subject to investigations for contributing to the accident. Either way, that’s far from straight-forward for investigators.

This early into an accident like this, the priority should be gathering evidence and getting answers. Whether or not there is accountability to pursue will depend on the facts.
