Zapata County, TX — February 26, 2025, Eduardo Sanchez and four others were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at 7:15 p.m. on U.S. 83.
According to preliminary details about the accident, it happened in the area of 21st and 22nd Avenue.

Investigators said that 64-year-old Eduardo Sanchez was in a Ford F-150 going southeast on the highway. A Chevy Express van was traveling the same direction. As they did so, an oncoming Chevy Tahoe reportedly failed to yield, causing the three vehicles to collide.
Due to the collision, the driver of the Chevy Express and a passenger were seriously injured. Eduardo Sanchez and two people in the Tahoe had possible minor injuries.
Right now, authorities allege that the driver of the Tahoe was a 15-year-old who was under the influence of alcohol. No further information is available.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Allegations of drunk driving are concerning enough. Those allegations being against a 15-year-old are even more alarming. If these allegations are true, no doubt everyone will have the same question in mind: Who gave alcohol to a 15-year-old? This is important for more reasons than people may realize.
Obviously, if someone provides alcohol to a minor, they can face criminal consequences. In Texas, though, it can also make them responsible for contributing to an accident. Texas law says that if someone gives alcohol to a minor, and that alcohol contributes to an accident, the person or establishment that provided the alcohol can be responsible for the resulting injuries.
My concern is that authorities often put all of their focus on an accident scene and fail to expand the scope of their investigations to potential accomplices. Perhaps the seriousness of such a young person being accused of drunk driving motivated them to be more thorough, but there isn’t enough information right now to confirm there will be full accountability for all parties who had a hand in causing this crash.
