Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
While no details are confirmed right now, authorities mentioned alcohol as a suspected factor in the crash. It remains to be seen if that’s simply speculation or if there is supporting evidence, but it’s a concern that cannot be taken lightly either way. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accidents involving people unlawfully over-served by bars and restaurants. Many of them happen this late into the evening.
At the same time, I’ve had plenty of situations where authorities were quick to blame a victim for an accident only for further investigations to show authorities made a mistake or missed some important extenuating circumstances. That’s why it’s best to take initial details like these with a grain of salt. If nothing else, victims and families involved in a serious crash deserve to know the answers they’re getting are actually backed up by the evidence.
