Upshur County, TX — April 6. 2024, Dylan Reddock was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 9:30 p.m. on US Highway 259.
Authorities said they were called out to the crash scene several miles north of Longview near the intersection of US 259 and FM 1650.
According to officials, 21-year-old Dylan Reddock was the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe which was stalled out along the right shoulder of the highway. Reddock was outside the stalled vehicle at the time when it appears a southbound Chevy Silverado left its lane, went onto the shoulder, and hit the Hyundai. Reddock was hit in the process.
As a result of the collision, Reddock sustained serious injuries. The driver who allegedly hit Reddock apparently left the scene but was later found. That driver is accused of being under the influence of alcohol at the time, and authorities recommended charges for intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid.

If these details are all accurate, it’s sometimes a problem when intoxicated drivers leave an accident scene. If enough time passes between the accident and the arrest, it can be difficult for authorities to get a blood-alcohol content result. Even without that, though, there can still be a lot of evidence to consider when seeking to prove someone’s intoxication.
While I don’t handle criminal matters, our firm has to prove intoxication when we sue bars and other alcohol providers for contributing to a drunk driving accident. We’ve often done so using evidence like security footage, witness statements, testimony from medical experts, credit card statements, and even texts and social media to prove someone was intoxicated and illegally over-served prior to an accident. Even without a BAC, that can prove to be convincing enough for a potential jury.
Since authorities feel confident they can pursue criminal charges, my hope is that’s a sign they have plenty of clear evidence to support those charges and ensure there’s accountability for the victim’s injuries. Of course, that would also have to mean they’re looking into where this alleged alcohol came from. I have yet to see authorities make any statement on that, so there could be more to this story.
