Houston, TX — August 25, 2024, a child was killed following a drowning accident at around 4:00 p.m. at Club Westside along Wilcrest.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident happened during a birthday party which was occurring at one of the pools at Club Westside, which is located at 1200 Wilcrest Drive off of Briar Forest Drive.

Right now, details appear to be limited. Details suggest that a 7-year-old girl in the pool during the party was found underwater and was removed from the pool. EMS transported the girl to a hospital, but she was pronounced deceased. Details suggest there were at least two lifeguards working at the time, but further specifics about safety precautions are unavailable right now.

Without knowing more, I certainly am not going to jump to conclusions or suggest I know more than anyone else reading about the incident in the news. However, I’ve been looking at images online of this particular club, and it’s raised a few questions. There appear to be multiple different pools, and some have particular physical features unlike most typical public pools, including bridges, rock formations, twists and turns, and carve-outs that may be out of the way.
These details stand out because it makes me wonder if two lifeguards were enough for whatever pool this party was happening at, and I also wonder if this pool or any other ones on the property may be designed such that it creates unnecessary risks by obstructing visibility. Are those things authorities are including in their investigations, even if it’s just to rule out certain possibilities? If there were issues that led to this incident, not only do those involved deserve to know, but they need to be addressed to ensure this never happens again.
