Beaumont, TX — July 18, 2024, Derek Banks was fatally injured due to a hit-and-run that happened around 10:20 p.m. on College Street.
According to initial details about the incident, it took place in the area of the College Street and Dowlen Road.
In their statements, authorities said that 52-year-old Derek Dewayne Banks was on foot at the time. While in the area of College Street, investigators believe a dark vehicle struck Derek Banks. That vehicle then reportedly left the scene.
Derek Banks was killed due to the accident. It’s unclear at this time if authorities have identified a suspect driver.

Since this accident happened, I haven’t seen much new information from the authorities. If they have any further details, it would be prudent for them to release it publicly. Oftentimes, hit-and-runs reach a resolution because someone in the community sees something in the news and connects the dots to someone they know or have seen. Even months following an accident, there can be progress. Hopefully authorities didn’t just treat this accident as a low priority when there may still be loved ones looking for answers.
