Whenever alcohol is an alleged factor in an accident, folks tend to think charges are filed against the driver, and that’s the end of the story. However, even when that’s as far as authorities go, it’s rarely the end of the story. This is due to the fact a lot of alcohol-related accidents involve negligent alcohol providers who might also be responsible for contributing to the accident.
Simply put, if an alcohol provider unlawfully over-serves someone who is obviously intoxicated, they can face criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, and liability for the injuries resulting from that intoxication. These avenues exist both as a way to see negligent alcohol providers clean up their act and so that victims and families can be certain the wrongs done to them are being addressed.
That’s why it’s so frustrating how many times across hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers I’ve seen authorities simply ignore the possibility of a complicit alcohol provider. It only allows those establishments to continue putting lives at risk while those they harmed are left bearing a burden they shouldn’t have to bear. Just knowing about this area of the law, though, can help victims and families take proper steps to ensure no one is let off the hook following a serious drunk driving accident.
