Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After any serious crash—especially one as complex as a commercial truck wreck—it’s important to know how the investigations are being handled. Despite what people may think, there isn’t always some crack CSI team looking over the evidence. More often than not, the accident is handled by whatever officers can respond to the scene, and not every department is going to provide officers with the time or tools needed to do their job right.
This is why I always talk about the importance of families being proactive and following up with authorities early and often. If they go to the authorities with questions and concerns, and authorities can satisfyingly address all of those concerns, it’s probably because they’re doing a thorough investigation. However, if their answers come up short or leave doubts, then perhaps a second set of eyes would show that authorities let important details slip through the cracks. Either way, a family deserves to know they’re getting the whole story.
