How Did This Accident Occur?

People sometimes hear about construction accidents and just write them off, assuming that it comes with the territory. In my experience, though, people don’t get hurt or killed on job sites where the rules are being followed. That’s why OSHA exists, but sometimes their investigations can take months to come up with anything. In fact, most of the time I get calls from a worker’s family, it’s because they waited patiently for OSHA to give them answers, yet they’re still asking the same questions months later that they were asking on day one.

The fact of the matter is that fatal work accidents in Texas are uniquely complex. Our laws do not require employers to ensure that a worker’s loved ones are automatically taken care of following an accident. As such, those families may need extensive evidence and unique legal tools to fight for a fair outcome. That isn’t generally something a months- or years-long OSHA investigation will provide.

It’s possible that authorities here have been more thorough behind the scenes to ensure the victim’s family have all their questions and concerns addressed. That’s just not something I’d ever take for granted. I have no doubt some readers have their own experiences with OSHA they can share in the comments that can attest to that.
