Right now, details allege that the driver involved was under the influence of alcohol. Multiple charges were recommended against that driver, but there isn’t any indication authorities looked into where the alcohol came from. In many accidents involving alcohol, investigations can show a local alcohol provider like a restaurant or bar illegally over-served the driver. This can mean that establishment could face criminal investigations or fines and may also be liable for the injuries victims suffered as a result of that over-service.

Unfortunately, across hundreds of cases I’ve handled against negligent alcohol providers, authorities tend to overlook that possibility. As a result, negligent alcohol provider often fly under the radar while those who were harmed by those actions are left wondering what path they can take to get the help they need. Hopefully authorities were more thorough than these details suggest, but it’s possible independent investigators would show there is still more to this story.
