Oconee County, SC — December 3, 2024, Charles Karanink was killed following a truck accident at approximately 8:30 a.m. along Interstate Highway 85.
According to authorities, 63-year-old Charles Karanink was traveling in a northbound Mini Cooper on I.H. 85 in the vicinity south of Fair Play when the accident took place.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Mini Cooper failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered to the right, hitting a guardrail before re-entering the active lanes of the highway. There, it’s left side was hit by an 18-wheeler.
Karanink suffered critical injuries as a result of the wreck; he was flown to an area medical facility in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of his injuries, having been declared deceased before arrival. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Could external elements like a tire blowout, a mechanical failure, or a sudden obstacle on the road have caused the vehicle to veer?
