Covington, TX — April 1, 2023, Chad Brooks was killed and one person was possibly injured following a motorcycle accident along Highway 171.
Investigators said that the crash took place at around 11:30 p.m. The exact details are still under investigation, but officials said that 43-year-old Chad Brooks was in a motorcycle traveling northbound on the highway. From oncoming lanes, it appears a Jeep Wrangler crossed the center line and crashed with Brooks.

Chad Brooks died as a result of the collision. The other driver may have been injured and was taken to a hospital. Authorities said there was an “alcohol evaluation,” but they did not report any results. Investigations are ongoing.

As eye-catching as it can be anything alcohol comes up in these reports, it’s important to keep in mind what the reports do and don’t say. It’s entirely possible that authorities conducted an alcohol evaluation simply because it’s standard procedure after a fatal crash—especially if they find evidence that driver caused a deadly collision.
It’s also possible, though, that something made authorities suspect alcohol as a factor, and they just haven’t confirmed to the public what their findings were. It could be the timing of the crash, the condition of the driver at the scene, evidence in their vehicle, or other details that lead to such suspicions. I wonder if continued investigations will reveal some similar factor was involved here.
