I get calls about single-vehicle accidents often. People tend to have similar concerns. How can they be sure their side of the story will be told fairly? Well, authorities unfortunately can’t always guarantee that. There are some common oversights that sometimes require more thorough independent investigations.

The first concern is whether authorities had the time and tools to investigate thoroughly. Did they examine road conditions, tire marks, or environmental factors that could have caused the vehicle to overturn? Without a detailed analysis, key evidence might be missed.

Another important question is whether a vehicle defect could have contributed. Mechanical issues like brake failures, steering problems, or tire blowouts can lead to loss of control, and safety system failures can worsen injuries. A forensic inspection of the vehicle is essential.

Finally, was electronic evidence preserved? The vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM), along with GPS data or nearby video footage, could provide crucial insight into what happened. Securing this data quickly is critical.

Asking these questions can help people make an informed decision about how to proceed. Either they feel authorities have provided satisfactory answers, or they take steps to have independent investigators fill in any blanks.
