Accident Report
February 10, 2026, Candace Cumbie was injured as the result of a car accident at around 9:55 a.m. along FM 2100.
Authorities said they were called out to the area of Main Street/FM 2100 and James Lane in east Harris County in the Highlands area.
It appears that 63-year-old Candace Cumbie was a passenger in a Dodge Ram going southbound on Main Street. A Ford Expedition was going eastbound. Authorities say the Ford made an improper turn, and the two vehicles collided.
Candace Cumbie sustained serious injuries in the crash. The man driving the Dodge and the woman driving the Ford did not have reported injuries. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities seem to be clear on how the crash happened, but there might be a more important question to answer: How did the victim’s injuries happen? Let me explain why this distinction matters.
It stands out anytime there are multiple people involved in a crash, but only one person suffers serious injuries. Sometimes, it’s just a fluke due to the geometry of the accident (i.e. the direction and force of the impact). Other times, however, it can be a red flag that an airbag, seatbelt, seat assembly, or other vital safety feature failed during the crash. If someone should have been fine but instead suffer serious injuries due to an unexpected defect, that’s a serious issue that needs further investigation.
I’m not saying that happened here, just to be clear, but it is something accident reconstructionists should rule out.
