Oak Park Heights, MN — September 9, 2024, one person was killed following a motorcycle versus truck accident at about 8:30 p.m. along S.H. 95.
According to authorities, a 27-year-old man from Stillwater was traveling on a southbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle on State Highway 95 in the vicinity of State Highway 37 when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an 18-wheeler attempted to make a left turn onto the S.H. 36 exit ramp at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the motorcycle and the 18-wheeler. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy for people to assume they were the result of a split-second mistake. However, based on my experience, incidents involving large trucks and motorcycles are often more complicated and require a thorough investigation. This fatal crash on State Highway 95 is no exception.
The question that arises is why the truck driver made that turn. Was there a visibility issue, driver distraction, or was the trucker simply trying to beat oncoming traffic? Left turns are particularly dangerous for large trucks due to their slower acceleration and wide turns, and truck drivers must exercise extreme caution, especially when motorcycles are involved since they are harder to see and more vulnerable in collisions.
