Madison County, ID — December 6, 2024, a woman was injured following a bus accident at approximately 8:00 a.m. along 4000 West.
According to authorities, a woman was traveling in a PT Cruiser on 1000 South approaching the 4000 West intersection when the accident took place.

The intersection is apparently controlled by a two-way stop sign, with 4000 South having the right-of-way. Officials indicate that, allegedly because the bus was under the impression that the intersection was a 4-way stop, the bus came to a stop and proceeded into the intersection at an unsafe time, failing to yield the right-of-way to traffic on 4000 South. This resulted in a collision between the bus and the PT Cruiser.
The 62-year-old woman who had been in the PT Cruiser was entrapped in the wreckage, according to reports, and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Once freed from the aftermath, she was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment for the injuries she had incurred over the course of the accident. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When crashes like this occur, people often focus on the immediate circumstances, such as a school bus entering an intersection at the wrong time. However, in my experience, collisions involving school buses raise important questions about driver preparedness, oversight, and the safety measures in place to prevent such incidents.
What caused the school bus driver to misjudge the right-of-way and proceed into oncoming traffic? Was the driver distracted, fatigued, or insufficiently trained to handle complex traffic situations? School bus drivers are entrusted with the safety of their passengers and others on the road, so it’s crucial to determine whether the driver was qualified and equipped to carry out this responsibility. These questions are critical to understanding the root cause of the accident.
The school district or bus contractor responsible for operating the bus must also be closely examined. These entities bear the responsibility of hiring competent drivers, providing thorough training, and enforcing policies that prioritize safety above all else. Was the driver adequately vetted and trained to ensure they were prepared for the challenges of the role? Additionally, do the district or contractor’s policies promote safe decision-making, or could systemic issues such as tight schedules or inadequate supervision have contributed to the crash? Answering these questions is key to determining whether broader failures played a role in this collision.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
