Right now, details remain unconfirmed, but authorities reported the possibility that alcohol was involved. It’s possible they’re just looking into it as standard procedure, but if it was a factor here, it could make investigations rather challenging. While authorities are generally investigating drunk driving, they rarely address where the alcohol came from, and that can be incredibly important if it turns out someone was illegally over-served.

Simply put, it’s illegal in Texas for alcohol providers to serve someone who is obviously intoxicated. If they do so, and that leads to that person getting themselves or someone else hurt, the alcohol provider can be responsible for that harm. While that seems like something authorities should be motivated to investigate, many of the hundreds of negligent alcohol providers I’ve had cases against weren’t on the authorities’ radar until we found them through our own investigations. So while alcohol may not have been a factor here, it’s important to keep in mind the potential hurdles if it was.
