If the allegations are true, then it would certainly warrant serious attention on the mistakes that led to a young woman losing her life. But those charges alone may not be the end of the story. Too often, once authorities have someone facing charges, they just move on without a second thought. But what if, for example, the intoxicated driver was unlawfully served alcohol by an alcohol provider? Whether that’s a business serving a minor or over-serving someone who is obviously intoxicated, it could result in potential criminal investigations, fines, or liability for the resulting accident.

If authorities are too hasty, they could just let another wrongdoer off the hook, leaving the victim’s loved ones with an incomplete picture of what went wrong. Maybe that didn’t happen here, but the key is to ensure investigations are covering these possibilities so nothing important slips through the cracks.
