Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

These allegations are obviously serious, but people may put all of their focus on the teenage driver allegedly drunk behind the wheel. That’s understandable, but there’s another important question to consider: Where did the alcohol come from?

It could be something as simple as a family member or older acquaintance providing the alcohol. Or, it could be there’s a local business selling alcohol to underage customers. That could raise even more red flags, as my experience handling cases against hundreds of alcohol providers has shown that establishments breaking one rule are usually breaking more. Should that be swept aside just because there’s a negligent driver facing charges? Of course not.

At the end of the day, accountability means appropriate consequences for all parties involved. Are authorities taking steps to see that happen here?
