Erath County, TX — April 20, 2024, a woman was injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at around 5:15 p.m. along U.S. Highway 67.
Statements from authorities say the crash happened near County Road 204, a few miles east of Stephenville and west of TX-220.

According to officials, 59-year-old Antonio Torres Gomez was in a Dodge Durango with two passengers, a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman. They were going eastbound on U.S. 67 at the time when a southbound Chevy Equinox went left of center. Gomez reportedly swerved left to avoid the collision, but the Chevy also swerved, and the vehicles collided.
The woman in Gomez’s vehicle reportedly had serious injuries due to the crash. There were no other reported injuries.

Authorities allege that the Chevy driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. But are they also looking into if an alcohol provider over-served that driver? Frankly, that’s something authorities tend to overlook.
This all reminds me of a case I handled not long ago. A drunk driver went into oncoming traffic and hit a family head-on, injuring a young boy. Authorities charged the driver, but that’s where the investigations ended. If they had continued, they would have found what our investigations found. The bar that served the driver broke the law by over-serving him while he was obviously intoxicated. He ended up so extremely intoxicated he could barely walk, let alone drive. As such, we held that bar accountable for actions authorities would have let them get away with.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, but that’s up to the evidence to say. The challenge is usually ensuring someone is actually looking for that evidence. Unfortunately, that’s rare when left solely up to the authorities.
