How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people, upon hearing about crashes like this one, are quick to assume that driver inattention was at the heart of the cause. While I’m not saying that it’s not a possibility, I can confidently say that it’s not the only possibility. I’ve looked at hundreds of car accidents over the years, and sometimes it’s the less likely causes that actually turn out to have been the culprit.
Take this case, for example. What if the Silverado had a steering malfunction and it veered into a different lane without input from the driver? What if it was equipped with a Blind Spot Monitoring system that was faulty, so it didn’t alert the driver to other vehicles in the vicinity previous to a lane change? Let me know in a comment if you can think of any other mechanisms or products that could have malfunctioned resulted in the collision.
There are so many moving parts that all have to work together cohesively in a car. If something went wrong with the vehicle and that was what led to the accident, then the people who were affected by the wreck deserve to know; that way, responsibility and accountability land where they actually belong, not just where they are presumed to belong.
