Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Commercial truck wrecks can result in very chaotic accident scenes, and authorities aren’t always prepared to handle them. That’s why it’s often important early on to ask questions and see how authorities respond.

Are authorities pulling vehicle data? Are they looking for nearby cameras? Are they inspecting the vehicles for defects? Are they analyzing debris patterns and road conditions? Have they recorded witness statements they can follow up with? Have they pulled cell phone records?

Sometimes, authorities show they’ve been thorough and are considering the accident from all angles. Other times, their responses fall short, and it becomes clear that telling the victim’s side of the story fairly will require independent investigations. Either way, taking initiative early on can make all the difference for victims and families after a serious truck accident.
