Gray, ME — May 29, 2023, a 13-year-old was injured due to a tractor-trailer accident Monday afternoon along Lewiston Road.

Preliminary details about the crash say that it happened at approximately 2:29 p.m. near the intersection of Lewiston Road (Route 4) and Weymouth Road.

According to information from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, a 13-year-old boy was getting off a bus at the time that was stopped along Lewiston. Details say that the bus had its flashing lights activated and its stop sign extended. A tractor-trailer approaching the bus either attempted to pass on the left or swerved to avoid hitting the bus, and it hit the teenager as they entered the roadway.

Due to the collision, the 13-year-old was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Details in the Portland Press Herald say the boy’s mother, Heather Phillips, set up a GoFundMe. No others were reportedly injured.

At this time, there is no mention of potential charges or citations. The accident is still under investigation.
