Accident Report

McKinney, TX — May 2, 2026, one person was killed and another was injured in a suspected drunk driving accident at about 4 a.m. on Virginia Parkway.

Authorities said a vehicle nearly hit a police car then fled as officers attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle crashed and caught fire near the intersection with Independence Parkway.

A juvenile riding in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while the driver, another juvenile, was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Collin County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

This crash reportedly was the end result of an attempted traffic stop in McKinney. The driver fled rather than pull over for police, eventually crashing near the intersection of Virginia Parkway and Independence Parkway. Unless police can prove their suspicions that the driver was intoxicated, the most intriguing aspect of this crash is the fact that the vehicle caught fire. That could be the sign of a mechanical defect, but we won’t know for sure unless an independent expert examines the vehicle before it is scrapped or repaired.

Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such exams, in my experience, so the passenger’s family likely will have to seek out someone else to provide answers about this crash.
