Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If authorities have the right suspect here, then there will no doubt be steps to hold them accountable for leaving the accident scene. Finding a runaway driver is obviously a priority following any accident like this. However, it’s just part of the larger story.
Investigations also need to determine why the driver fled. Were they drunk? Did they have warrants? Did drugs play a role? Were there other issues they didn’t want police to find out about? At the end of the day, a victim’s loved ones deserve to know the whole story. Just because someone may eventually face charges doesn’t mean there’s no need to get further answers about what led to the accident.
