Hidalgo County, TX — August 31, 2024, a man sustained injuries as the result of a car accident that happened around 10:18 p.m. along F.M. 494.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident took place along F.M. 494 near Mayberry Road.
Details suggest that a 32-year-old man was in a Kia going along F.M. 494. At a curve in the road, the vehicle somehow lost control and left the roadway. It went over a set of railroad tracks before then hitting a pole and overturning.
As a result of the crash, the Kia driver sustained serious injuries. No others were reportedly involved in the accident. No further information about the accident is available.

A concern I express often on this blog is whether or not people involved in a single-vehicle wreck ever got a chance to tell their side of the story. When someone is seriously injured, they’re often taken to the hospital before authorities are able to ask them what happened. Officers generally follow up later on, but things sometimes slip through the cracks. And with departments often treating single-vehicle wrecks as a low priority, they may not get evidence to fill in the blanks. As such, authorities sometimes leave victims with an incomplete or inaccurate picture, and they’re left looking for alternative avenues to tell their side of the story. Hopefully authorities were more thorough behind the scenes with this accident, but that’s frankly something I wouldn’t take for granted.
