Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, the cause of the crash is unclear. I can only hope authorities were more thorough behind the scenes than these public statements suggest. The concern is that there is a lot of negative bias surrounding motorcyclists, and that can lead some officers to rush to conclusions without actually looking at the facts. This could involve anything from a mechanical defect to a tire blowout to road hazards, but if investigators just assume the driver was being reckless, they risk overlooking something important. That’s why a lot of these types of crashes end up in the hands of independent accident reconstructionists who can set their bias aside and let the evidence speak for itself. It wouldn’t be unusual if the same proved necessary here, as well.
