Joliet, IL — February 16, 2024, one person was killed in a truck accident at approximately 5:30 a.m. along State Route 53.
According to authorities, an 18-wheeler was at a stop with its hazard lights activated in the outside lane of S.R. 53 in the vicinity north of the West Sharp Road intersection when the accident occurred.

The causal factors that led to the crash are still unclear. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the 18-wheeler was rear-ended by a southbound Chevy Cobalt occupied by a 23-year-old man from Indiana. The 23-year-old incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
