Polk County, TX — December 7, 2023, a teenager was killed in an 18-wheeler versus school bus accident that happened around 4:17 p.m. on U.S. 59.
According to multiple news sources, the collision happened just north of Livingston along the northbound side of U.S. Highway 59.
Details at this time say that the victim, a 15-year-old, had just exited a Livingston ISD school bus stopped along the right side of the highway. Officials say the bus had come to a stop with its sign out and flashing lights on. A Toyota car came to a stop behind the bus. An 18-wheeler, however, reportedly failed to slow down and hit the Toyota, following which the 18-wheeler veered to the right and hit the teenager. As a result, the 15-year-old sustained fatal injuries. There were no other reported injuries.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, reports show that the 18-wheeler driver has been arrested on a pending charge of criminal negligent homicide. I certainly don’t know anything more about this tragic accident than what’s been reported in the news, but I have to wonder if that charge alone is really enough to address what happened here. Is there more to this crash the victim’s family has yet to hear?
