East New York, NY — May 28, 2023, 15 people were injured in a 6-vehicle chain-reaction accident around 8:30 p.m. at New Lots Ave. and Essex St. in East New York.

Authorities report a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus was stuck as the result of a 6-vehicle chain reaction crash.

Purportedly a passenger vehicle on Essex Street rear-ended a van which then cause the van to travel into the intersection with New Lots Ave. and collide with an SUV. The SUV was allegedly facing west and stopped at a stop sign. Officials say the passenger vehicle that had initially struck the van also entered the intersection and collided with the MTA bus.

Sources report 14 or 15 people suffered injuries and were taken to hospitals. A passenger in the back of a white sedan purportedly suffered critical injuries.

Police recommended charging the driver that started the chain reaction.
