Accident Report

February 16, 2026, Zoine McKelvy was injured as the result of a car accident at around 11:18 p.m. along US Highway 290.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash took place near the intersection of the Northwest Freeway and Fairbanks North Houston Road.

According to officials, 23-year-old Zoine McKelvy and a 26-year-old man were in a Toyota Avalon going northwest along the highway. A Nissan Versa was going the same direction. The vehicles somehow crossed paths and collided.

Due to the accident, Zoine McKelvy reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When two cars going the same direction collide, that’s usually a sign that someone was on their phone or going too fast. Evidence may show that’s what happened here. However, there are virtually countless other possibilities that need to be considered, as well.

Did one driver cut off the other driver? Did a vehicle experience brake failure? Was there an issue with a lane assistance or crash avoidance feature? Was someone experiencing a medical emergency? Did a vehicle not have working taillights or brake lights?

I bring up these other possible explanations not just to discourage people from jumping to conclusions but also because I see authorities overlook them far too often. The unfortunate reality is authorities sometimes treat car accidents as a low priority. They may glance at the scene and speak with some witnesses, but inspecting vehicles, pulling vehicle data, reconstructing debris patterns and road markings, and canvasing an area of video cameras usually only happens with independent investigations.

That’s precisely why I’ve always relied on independent accident reconstructions after serious car accidents. I’ve found time and time again that they tend to get better results for everyone involved. They may ultimately confirm what police already know, but that’s a whole lot better than missing crucial information because there wasn’t a safety net in place ready to catch what authorities let slip through the cracks.
