Irving, TX — July 14, 2025, two people were killed as the result of a reported wrong-way driving accident at 3:00 a.m. on Highway 114.
According to preliminary statements about the crash, it happened in the area of Esters Boulevard by DFW Airport.
Investigators said that a vehicle was traveling the wrong direction on eastbound lanes of the freeway. As a result, that vehicle and another vehicle collided head-on. Reports say that both drivers died as a result of the accident.
There were no other reported injuries. Details leading up to the crash are still under investigation.

When wrong-way collisions like this happen, it’s all too easy for people to jump to conclusions. First of all, extenuating circumstances always need to be considered, even if they seem unlikely. Evidence could show that something like bad lighting, missing signage, road design issues, or even a medical emergency led to this crash.
That said, even in the far more common scenario that this happened due to intoxicated driving, it’s important to determine all of the events leading up to a collision. I’ve handled hundreds of cases involving intoxicated drivers. A lot of the time when someone is in a state that they can’t tell they’re getting on the wrong side of a freeway, it’s a red flag that they may have been unlawfully over-served.
Texas law says bars and other establishments can be responsible for contributing to accidents if they unlawfully over-serve someone who’s obviously intoxicated. That’s especially true if that over-service leads to people getting hurt or killed. Holding those alcohol providers accountable isn’t just important for the families affected by these accidents; it’s important for the whole community that establishment is putting at risk.
So while people may not consider anything beyond the crash scene, there could be an outside party involved in two people losing their lives who need to be brought to light. That’s why it will be important to know if authorities are really being thorough here to ensure there is a full accounting of the events that led to this deadly crash.
