UPDATE (October 20, 2023): The truck driver killed in this accident has been identified as Lafollette Henderson. The exact circumstances of the accident are still unclear, but federal investigators mentioned a belief that a broken rail caused the train to exit the track and fall onto the interstate below.
Pueblo, CO — October 15, 2023, a truck driver was killed following a train derailment accident at around 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 25.
Authorities in their initial statements said they were called to the scene a few miles north of the city along northbound lanes of the interstate.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Details suggest a tractor-trailer driven by a man from Compton, California, was traveling along I-25. In a series of unclear events, a train derailed onto the interstate off an overpass, crushing the truck and leaving the bridge collapsed. Ultimately, the truck driver succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident. It’s unclear at this time if anyone else was hurt.
Authorities have yet to say if the bridge collapse caused the derailment or if other factors led to the train derailment, which in turn resulted in the bridge collapse. Authorities with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) continue to investigate the details surrounding the accident.
